Feedback from users of StepByStep
"If you do something for an hour and then nothing then until next time you do and do a little bit more and then next week again whereas with the speech with my computer I can do it whenever I want and how long it is and if I want to do a lot and quickly that’s fine so with the computer it is wonderful because you can do what you want and when".
"People really a year after they usually say that’s it because it is completely wrong because with Jane it is 2 years and when we think what we have done now it is so better".
Feedback from Communication partner
"Previous therapy was all very good but I just think more speech therapy would have been ideal. They are so pressured they haven’t got time. If he had had it daily it would be hoping for a lot whereas with the computer he has had it daily. He has spent a lot of time on it which is why I think it has worked"
The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist guidelines recommend computer supported therapy:-
"Computer-based therapy offers the potential to provide intensive home-based therapy with minimal clinician input. Improvements in performance over a number of communicative modalities can occur.
Computers can provide an additional method of delivering therapy, either during face-to-face therapy time, or with remote support from a therapist. This can provide greater access to therapy, particularly for individuals living in remote areas. With greater access to computers in society as a whole, computer-based therapy exploits the IT revolution and promotes an additional method of communication and accessing information."

StepByStep is a software therapy tool that can be used by speech and language therapists with people with aphasia to supplement single word processing therapy.
StepByStep software has been specifically designed to be used independently and therefore provide more intensive therapy. The sophisticated results capturing, and updating over the internet ensures that the program does not place extra time constraints on the therapist.
It contains a large library of exercises using high quality photographs and speech feedback to target single word auditory processing, single word production, reading and writing. Exercises are tailored by the clinician to meet the needs of each user so that they can work at the most appropriate level.
It also allows the addition of personal photographs and words, so that exercises can be created specifically to target the words that are most important to your client.
How could StepByStep enhance your clinical practice?
Enable you to deliver more repetitive impairment based word retrieval therapy tailored to the individual, releasing you to concentrate on other aspects of communication.
Enable your client to do additional therapy as an in-patient on a stroke unit or rehabilitation ward in-between your therapy sessions.
Enable you to use a client's home computer as a resource to supplement therapy.
